Characteristics:

Ambroxol favorably influences creation and movement of secretions in breathing paths. Expectorating of mucus and alleviation of cough becomes easier. The Ambrosan® preparations are usually tolerated well. They are quickly absorbed.

Indications:

Treating of acute and chronic diseases of breathing system accompanied by increased production of viscous bronchial mucus, its more difficult transport and expectorating. The examples of such diseases are inflammations of upper and lower breathing passages (bronchitis, laryngitis, inflammation of trachea, sinusitis and cold).

Contraindications:

Ambrosan® may not be used in cases of hypersensitivity to its components and acute ulcer disease of GIT.
During pregnancy and nursing it can be used only after consultation with a doctor. Risks vs. benefits of therapy always need to be carefully evaluated.
The Ambrosan® retard 75mg preparation is not suitable for children younger than 14 years old (due to the high content of effective substance).

Undesirable effects:

Ambrosan® is usually tolerated well. Rarely there are mild digestive problems (e.g. loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea) or skin rash. If you experience these undesirable effects or other unusual reactions, stop treatment and consult further use of the preparation with a doctor.

Interactions:

Effects of the Ambrosan® preparations and other simultaneously used medications can mutually interact. Inform your doctor or pharmacist about all medications you are using or have used recently, including the medications available without prescription.

Do not use other cough medicines without a consultation with an expert. Combination with cough suppressant medications can cause dangerous congestion of mucus in breathing passages.

Caution:

If you use this preparation without doctor’s prescription and the disease symptoms do not improve in 7 days for adults and 3 days for children, or even get worse, visit a doctor immediately. If you do not feel an improvement with the Ambrosan® retard75 mg within 3 days you must visit a doctor. A common side effect is an increase of mucus creation in the first 2-3 days.Increased attention is necessary for patients with limited kidney function, with serious liver damage and with stomach or duodenal ulcers.

Dosage:

The following dosage is recommended, unless specified differently by a doctor:
Tablets: Adults and children older than 12 years old: 1 tablet 3× a day, medicinal effect can be increased by taking 2 tablets 2× a day. Children 5–12 years old: 1/2 tablet 2–3× a day.
Capsules: Adults and children above 14 years old: 1 retarded release capsule 1× a day.
Drops:
Adults and children older than 12 years old: 30 mg (4 ml of solution), i.e. 140 drops 3× a day;
6–12 years old: 15 mg (2 ml of solution), i.e. 70 drops 2–3× a day;
2–6 years old: 7.5 mg (1 ml of solution), i.e. 35 drops 3× a day;
up to 2 years old: 7.5 mg (1 ml of solution), i.e. 35 drops 2× a day.
If the symptoms do not get significantly better during one week, consult a doctor.
The Ambrosan® preparations should be taken after meals and with a sufficient amount of water. The mucolytic effect of ambroxol is increased by intake of liquids.

Tablets: 20;
Capsules: 10 and 20;
Drops: 50 ml and 100 ml.
